Speech Therapy
Communication is one of the most fundamental and important of human skills. It is essential to learning, playing and social interaction. Impaired communication can affect every aspect of a child’s life. At Pediatrics Plus Therapy Services, we address communication deficiencies through a variety of therapeutic interventions.
A thorough evaluation by a speech-language pathologist is conducted to determine the child’s communications strengths and weaknesses. After the evaluation the speech-language pathologist will be able to provide a plan for meeting the child’s needs.
Pediatric Plus Therapy Services addresses a variety of communication disorders including:
• Sound production (articulation)
• Receptive language skills (understanding and following directions)
• Expressive language skills (putting words together, naming objects, etc.)
• Social skills of language (turn taking, eye contact, reading facial expressions)
• Voice (quality, volume, pitch)
• Fluency (speed of speech, stuttering)
• Assistive communication (sign language)
• Oral motor skills (movement of the tongue, teeth, lips, and jaw), and feeding
• Sucking and swallowing disorders
We promote therapy that stresses the importance of the fact that children learn through play; therefore, play is the primary medium through which goals are achieved. We use games, toys, and computer software to make speech therapy fun and exciting. It is our belief that a child who is engaged and excited about therapy will respond quickly to intervention.
Often times ongoing physical therapy intervention is needed. We provide continuing education and training for families to enhance their child's functional abilities.
