Physical Therapy
Physical therapy assists a child in achieving their maximum potential by using therapeutic exercise techniques to improve range of motion, recovery of strength and endurance, and to improve balance and coordination. Physical therapists also help children learn how to move independently, or with assistive devices (walkers, wheelchairs, crutches) in order to play and learn from their environment.
Treatment focus of pediatric physical therapy:
• Acquisition of developmental milestones
• Balance and coordination
• Development of age-appropriate gross motor skills
• Joint mobility and integrity
• Posture, positioning and gait
• Strength and range of motion
When a child is referred to Pediatrics Plus Therapy Services for physical therapy, the therapist performs an evaluation to identify the child's strengths and needs in order to establish the appropriate goal and treatment plan. Therapeutic exercise in pediatrics can take the form of both manual therapy techniques or structured play activities to accomplish specific objectives.
Often times ongoing physical therapy intervention is needed. We provide continuing education and training for families to enhance their child's functional abilities.
